Last week Mark gave up a weekend of his time to co-convene a pelvic fracture course in Sydney. The course was attended by senior registrars and orthopaedic consultants from around Australia. It was aimed at improving their knowledge and skills tin managing patients with these difficult injuries.
Although there were some lectures, the majority of the course was involved discussions of real cases, with problems and successes both aired. There was also a day of cadaveric dissection – this type of hands-on education is essential to explore and learn the complex surgical steps necessary to access pelvic fractures safely.
The course was a success and the feedback was excellent. The course will be repeated again in 2-3 years.
